Key Takeaways from e-Construction & Partnering Regional Workshop

Key Takeaways from e-Construction & Partnering Regional Workshop

Innovation.  Technology. Collaboration.  Those were the three workshop tracks at the 2019 e-Construction & Partnering Regional Workshop held April 17th – 18th in Pittsburg, PA.  Having personally attended several sessions during the conference, I can confirm the event delivered on its goal of educating the audience on those three subjects.  More than 200 attendees, representing 28 state DOTs, the FHWA and 16 industry leading solution providers attended the show.  Over two days, 22 presentations and sessions were held.   Attendees were highly engaged with the Q/A portions routinely running right to the session end.

Having spent two days listening and speaking with knowledgeable attendees, three key takeaways became clear.

Our Thoughts and Notes from UDOT MBDC Workshop

Our Thoughts and Notes from UDOT MBDC Workshop

“Roads?  Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.”

Who can forget that movie ending quote by Doc Brown in Back to the Future. Lucky for those of us in the road construction business, roads will be around for a long, long time, but the goals, vision and changes coming thru the Model Based Design & Construction (MBDC) process will feel like a shift as large as the thought of a world without roads.  Case in point, imagine building a nine-mile highway, complete with bridges, overpasses, exits, etc. with no paper plan sheets.  Based on conversations during the UDOT MBDC Workshop on February 4th, sooner than later, this will be the new norm.  How quickly we get there will ultimately come down to collaboration.

UDOT Invites OnStation To Attend MBDC Workshop

On Monday, February 4th the Utah Department of Transportation is holding an invitation only workshop focused on identifying the challenging data gaps when projects are bid solely by model-based designs and not plan sheets.  The workshop is part of UDOT’s continued push into the Model Based Design & Construction (MBDC) process to dramatically change how all jobs are designed and built.  OnStation is pleased to join other leading solution providers at this workshop, to bring an industry perspective to the conversation.
