A Usable Field Model

The future of transportation delivery runs on open, interoperable data that flows freely across the full project lifecycle and every organization involved. That vision has always been strongest in design and in the office, and hardest to realize where the work actually happens, in the field. The alignment lives in the model, while the crew building the road, the inspector documenting it, and the agency overseeing it have rarely had a shared, open, location-accurate way to see it on the ground. OnStation was built to close exactly that gap.

OnStation is the digital stationing platform for road and bridge construction. It puts a live station and offset in every crew member's pocket and turns every flag, photo, form, and chat into a geo-located record that holds up when the work is questioned. Location uncertainty is eliminated.

OnStation imports the project's design data directly (DGN, DWG, IFC, ALG, LandXML, TBC, KML, SHP) and renders the alignments, station, and offset live on any phone using GPS, accurate to within a few feet. The alignment leaves the model and reaches the person standing on the road. A crew member does not need a rover, a survey crew, or a set of stakes to determine their location relative to the design. Design layers are also viewable on the project map, with assets located at their designed station and alignment. Design layers can be copied, capturing metadata updates and field modifications. Date and time stamped photos confirm the work. As a result, non-CAD users can use and edit CAD data in the field.

Everything a crew documents is tied to a station location. A flag, a photo, a note, a completed form, or a measurement includes the station, alignment, offset, latitude and longitude, a timestamp, and the user who created it. This structured, location-verified, attributable field data is captured at the time of work, rather than reconstructed weeks later. It is shared in real time across organizations, so a contractor, an inspector, and agency staff all work from the same record tied to the same point on the ground. Open data only delivers value when everyone contributes, which is why OnStation is built for the whole project team, not a single role. OnStation also supports mile markers, latitude and longitude, and linear referencing, with statewide conversions between those systems and the project stationing available instantly.

OnStation aligns directly with openBIM by reading open standards like IFC and LandXML and exporting field data in open formats like KML and GeoJSON, along with PDF and CSV. Organizations fully own their data and can export it at any time.  OnStation is an AASHTO Data Alliance member.  Agencies can connect through the AASHTOWare Project (AWP) OpenAPI and pass project pay line items to their field inspectors.

A model is only as good as the ground truth it's fed. Digital as-builts, asset records for future projects, and a connected lifecycle all depend on trustworthy field data that is location-verified, timestamped, attributable, and exportable. OnStation is that source of ground truth and fills the gap between what happens on the corridor and what the systems of record can defend, without trying to replace the tools agencies and engineers already rely on. Design and modeling tools plan the work against the alignment. OnStation captures what actually happened at that alignment, geo-located and open, and sends it back to where it belongs.
